May brings even more heat to Mumbai but in our universe, it brought some interesting single malts too!
Our Whisky Ladies decided to experiment with Unusual Finishes:
- Speyside – Glenfiddich IPA 43% – Average but adequate
- Wales – Penderyn Madeira 46% – Absolutely loved!
- Highland – Tomatin 14 year Port Wood 46% – More miss than hit for us
- India – Amrut Port Pipe Peated 48% – A chance to share some Indian pride
Whereas our Bombay Malt & Cigar gents explored a quartet of merry Irish whiskies:
- Dingle Triple Distilled Batch 3, 46.5% – Let’s call this one a work in progress…
- Method and Madness Single Pot Still 40% – Midleton’s experiment with a Chestnut finish wasn’t entirely successful
- Green Spot Chateau Leoville Barton Bordeaux Finish 46% – Really rather yummy!!
- Redbreast Lustau Edition 46% – Pairs rather well with a cigar
And our original club? Our evening reminded us that sometimes our preferences are contrary to price!
- Hazelwood 21 year 40% – Dare I say insipid? Which isn’t what you want for $100
- Dalmore King Alexander III 40% – Matured in ex-bourbon cask then 6 different finishes resulting in a $200 price tag but questionable ROI
- Glenglassaugh Revival 46% – Surprisingly robust, rich and rewarding, clocking in at a mere $40?!
I also had a chance to catch up on tasting notes from April where the Whisky Ladies explored Highland Peaty Drams:
- Aird Mhor 8 year 55.3% (Single Malts of Scotland)
- Inchmoan 12 year 46% (Loch Lomond Distillery Island Collection)
- Ballechin Heavily Peated 12 year 54.5%
And Mumbai’s newest tasting group – The Drammers Club – held its 2nd session with an insane exuberant overabundance of whiskies for one night!
